Cowls are great, quick knits that use less yarn than scarves. Here are some of my favourite patterns, all of which would looks fantastic with a couple of hanks of Rowan Fine Art, which are currently on sale at both our stores!
Designed by Michele Rose Orne, the Katherine pullover from Swans Island is the perfect early Spring project. Simple and elegant with thoughtful lace and eyelet details for a beautifully hand-crafted v-neck pullover. Shown in Swans Island Pure Blends Worsted (Oatmeal), it would also look lovely in any of the Swans Island Natural Colors.
If you get the Churchmouse newsletters you will know today they reminded us it’s a lovely time to knit a stocking even if it’s for next year, or to give a stocking kit to share the knitted love of the Season.
We have the Churchmouse stocking pattern in store and several yarns that would work beautifully.
Treat your loved one to the luxury of beautiful yarn.
AIR is something extraordinary—an ultra soft, durable, pill-resistant yarn that is lighter and warmer than 100% cashmere. AIR features 40% of down from the brushtail possum fiber, combined with 40% cashmere and 20% mulberry silk. AIR is our most luxurious yarn.
Zealana Air – a light as a feather blend of cashmere, possum down, and silk, in beautiful solids ($24.00/25g), and now available in beautiful hand-dyed Koigu colourways ($59.95/50g).
25g is enough to knit a beret or pair of fingerless mitts, while 50g is enough for a shoulder warmer, scarf, or generous cowl. 3-4 balls makes this lovely Lacy Vest.
The Arboreal Cowl, available as a free Ravelry download, uses just 106 yards of super bulky yarn and can be knit in a variety of yarns. We love it in Swagger (1 skein for $26.50) or in Borealis knit together with 2 strands of Kidsilk Haze (2 x $15.95) for amazing loft and depth of colour. The pattern also suggests holding 3 strands of worsted weight together to achieve the same gauge.
We’re very excited to have been given permission by Kate Davies to use her Peerie Flooers design in our fair-isle/stranded knitting hat class. Class size is limited to 6 students, please contact us to register.
Basic-Intermediate knitting skills are required for this class.

Just one ball is enough for the Leaf Panel Beret shown above, while the striped shawl shown below takes 2 balls each of 2 colours.
