Neoclassical Wrap
Here’s our latest project we just can’t get enough of. The Neoclassical Wrap. This gorgeous poncho wrap can be made with either 12 mm or 15 mm needles in three sizes, but even the small fits everyone. It just doesn’t hang as low.
The super fun part is it’s yarn held double or triple allowing a depth of colour and texture. it’s also a super stash buster. Pattern available in store with purchase of yarn. I’ll post a few other versions over the next couple of days, so you can see the possibilities. Make this for $50 and up depending on yarn choices and size. Here we have used 12 mm an combined Ultra Alpaca Chunky with Independence, a Spincycle heavy worsted hand-dyed.
Wristwarmers – fingering
Crispy leaves are underfoot! Gear up with these sweet wristwarmers before you start your yard work. Remember our Rowan Fine Art is on a crazy sale, now $20.97 (was ($29.95)! Harvest Hands: The hand-painted Fine Art will make this wristwarmer pop!
Krokus/Crocus: The cute pin tucks will stand out even more with a contrast yarn. Two hanks of the Fine Art will get you three pairs of wristwarmers. Stella also has a great pin tuck tutorial with loads of pictures.
Onion Market: A slightly more challenging lace pattern reminiscent of onions.
Cowls of Autumn
Cowls are great, quick knits that use less yarn than scarves. Here are some of my favourite patterns, all of which would looks fantastic with a couple of hanks of Rowan Fine Art, which are currently on sale at both our stores!
- Honey uses a simple stitch that creates a waffle pattern, perfect for showing off the hand-painted colours of Fine Art.
- Purl Bee’s Lovely Ribbed Cowl is a timeless classic that drapes so prettily.

Arboreal Cowl, a quick knit or a nifty gift!
As the days get shorter, and knitting time becomes more limited, super bulky yarn and needles make for quick gifts!
The Arboreal Cowl, available as a free Ravelry download, uses just 106 yards of super bulky yarn and can be knit in a variety of yarns. We love it in Swagger (1 skein for $26.50) or in Borealis knit together with 2 strands of Kidsilk Haze (2 x $15.95) for amazing loft and depth of colour. The pattern also suggests holding 3 strands of worsted weight together to achieve the same gauge.
Knit this Aujourd’hui!
Another great free cowl pattern from Tante Ehm on Ravelry, Aujourd’hui showcases the colour and texture of a beautiful hand-dyed super bulky yarn. Swagger, Bulky, Andes, Outer, Twinkle or Drops Eskimo, or Mega (all in store) are great choices for this cowl.
Zealana Air – New patterns and colours
The beautiful Zealana Air pattern book has arrived in store, along with new colours of this ultra soft, durable, and pill-resistant yarn that is lighter and warmer than 100% cashmere. AIR features 40% of down from the brushtail possum fiber, combined with 40% cashmere and 20% mulberry silk.
Just one ball is enough for the Leaf Panel Beret shown above, while the striped shawl shown below takes 2 balls each of 2 colours.
Drops Big Delight
Drops Big Delight has arrived in the store and we’re excited to see this soft and feltable self-striping wool. As always, Drops has lots of free patterns available on their website, everything from 1 ball hats to stunning garments and afghans.
